By Mark Wondsner

Abortion is something that every one of us is aware of, but there are not many individuals that have an idea about the varying types of abortion techniques, that people are known to use. As there are different types of abortion techniques, having proper understanding about them is going to ensure that you can deal with problems that arise with abortion in the modern day.

Before you understand the problems, it becomes important for you to understand what is abortion? Abortion is a technique that is used to deal with unwanted pregnancy. Now, there are different methods of abortions available to choose from, but it depends strictly on the availability of the health care facilities, social and economic status and the gestation period of the lady and also the overall health of the patient of course.

As far as the medical community is concerned there are different conclusions that come up with abortion. The natural abortion or otherwise known as the spontaneous abortion is referred to the miscarriage that female suffer with, which is caused due to trauma or shock that inadvertently affects the foetus, this automatically forces the body to expel the pregnancy. The spontaneous abortion is also found if the foetus has genetic infection or other diseases.

Next is the induced abortion is the kind of abortion that is induced by using specific medicines. There are two types of abortion that come into two types, therapeutic abortion and elective abortion. The former abortion occurs when it is found that the health of the mother is at risk and the pregnancy has to be terminated. It is also considered as the best option, if the foetus is found to be genetically abnormal and its further development can lead to death. Moreover, people are also known to prefer therapeutic abortion, in case of multiple births, as it might affect mother's health.

The medical method is a process which involves no surgical procedures, use of abortion medicines are used to terminate the pregnancy. These medicines are known to be effective against terminating pregnancy for up to 9-9 weeks only. Being precise, the effects of the medicines are considerably more useful if they are consumed within 8-9 weeks from the time the female had her last menstruation.

As the female enters the second trimester stage and opts for the abortion, here too she has three options to get the abortion done. These methods include dilation and evacuation, Hysterectomy and Intact dilation and extraction method.

Next are the surgical methods of getting the abortion done and it needs intervention and also requires having hospital arrangements in order to get this done. This process too differs depending on the stage of pregnancy that you have reached and thus, in case the female has been pregnant for around 16 weeks, there are medicinal pills that can be used for abortion.

Another surgical method used for this is the aspiration technique, which includes vacuum aspiration, suction aspiration and dilation or aspiration. It is found that if the female is in the later days of the second trimester of her pregnancy, in such cases gynaecologists are known to opt for dilation and evacuation. As a women looks to get aborted, it becomes very important for her to get it done by 24th week, because doing it after that can be problematic for the female.
