Find The Finest Joint Mobilization Therapy Specialists

By Rosella Campbell

Many people tend to suffer from some kind of pain when moving certain joints of the body. When the pain becomes unbearable it is best to see a specialist, this is then called joint mobilization therapy. It is a manual intervention on the synovial joint targeting a specific place to achieve a therapeutic effect.

These techniques are used by osteopaths, occupational therapists, chiropractors and physical therapists. The synovial joints are better known as the diarthrosis and are one that is common and is the most movable in a mammal. This is distinguished from cartilaginous and fibrous joints by the structural and functional differences.

The articular cartilage is the bones that are covered by a layer of hyaline cartilage that lines the joint end of the bone with a slippery and smooth surface but does not bind them together. The functions of these are to absorb any shock created and to reduce friction while moving. There are some joints that have additional structures within them. The articular discs are thin oval plates of fibrocartilage that separate synovial cavities allowing for separate movement to occur.

The tendons are a band of tough fibrous connective tissue that connect the muscle to the bone and can withstand a lot of tension. These are similar to ligaments and are made up of collagen. Tendons and muscles work together so that bones are able to move easily. The bursa is a small sac filled with fluid and lined by the synovial membrane. It helps to provide a cushion effect between the bones and muscles around the joint.

This form of therapy is to reduce pain in any joint which has resulted from injury or becoming old. A qualified practitioner is the only one that should do this kind of therapy as it can cause more harm than good if not done properly. When this has been done you might even be told to do some form of exercise so that it does not become worse over time.

Chiropractic is considered an alternative form of medicine that generally treats and diagnosis as well as helps with the prevention of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine. Their main treatment technique involves manual therapy. This is the kneading, mobilization and manipulation of muscles and joints. With manipulation of the joints there is a loud popping sound which is from the breakdown of gas bubbles that form. Mobilization is a more controlled process of the soft tissue and articular stretching which helps to improve bio mechanical elasticity.

The ankles are the most used joints in the body and tend to be the most that give pain of some kind. They have three different joints associated with them; the talocrural, subtalar and the inferior tibiofibular joint. If one is unlucky enough to cause injury to any of these joints and need to wear a brace or tape this can cause them to actually weaken and thus limiting its full range of movement.

With mobilization therapy, this can be corrected but can take up to a few months. It is a method of slowly bringing the joints back into motion without any fast actions. Always ask your doctor before you start any exercises especially if you have had a previous injury.
